Keep in mind that...

  • Learners have busy, full lives, so they may not have much time to practise English or do homework.
  • The tutoring session may be the only time during the week when the learner hears or has a chance to speak English.
  • Learning a new language takes time and a lot of repetition.
  • It is very stressful and tiring adjusting to a new language, culture and community.

What is most rewarding about being a tutor is seeing the delight in the learner's eyes when he/she begins to communicate meaningfully...at last we understand each other!
