The goals of the course are to help you understand and begin to implement
The course is divided into six modules, which are tied to the three sections of the Early Learning Framework. You are welcome to explore the modules in any order. To help you determine the content you wish to review, explore each module description.
In Module 1, you are invited to explore the first section of the framework and
You are encouraged to think about how the vision and principles of early learning affect your own professional practice with children from birth to age eight, and how your practice can be enhanced.
In Module 2, you are invited to explore the second section of the framework and
You will be able to consider how a pedagogy of listening, critical reflection, collaborative dialogue and pedagogical narration can be incorporated into your practice, whether that be in a child care setting, a classroom, or at home.
In Modules 3-6, you are invited to explore the third section of the framework to examine the living inquiries
You may also review pathways related to the inquiry, and mini-case studies that demonstrate how these pathways have been included in an educator’s practice.
For each of the pathways, critically reflective questions help you think about how you may include the inquiry in your own professional practice.
This course provides you with multiple ways to assess your learning. Throughout the online course, you will encounter case studies, reflective questions, and knowledge check activities. After you finish the online course, you’ll be able to continue on to a final assessment, which is marked and tracked, and leads to the awarding of professional development hours.
As you work through the modules, you will encounter case studies, reflective questions, and knowledge check activities. These will not be marked or tracked. They are designed to help you learn, by giving you ways to think about your learning, challenge your beliefs, and check up on your own progress.
The final assessments are an opportunity to assess your learning from each module of the course. Successful completion of each assessment will award a certificate for a specified number of professional development hours for Early Childhood Educators (ECEs).
Please visit the B.C. Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Registry for more information on renewing or maintaining your certification.
The final assessment is an opportunity to assess your learning for all six modules of the course. There are three parts of the final assessment, each one with a separate certificate. For each part of the assessment you successfully complete, you will earn a set number of professional development hours. If you complete all three parts of the assessment, you will earn a total of eight professional development hours.
The three parts of the final assessment are:
As you work through the course, you can pause to take each assessment after you complete the module(s), or you can complete all three at the end. There is no time limit or restriction on accessing or completing the exams.
