Technology

Educators reflect on both the creative and the negative potentials of technology and childhood.

Critically Reflective Questions

  • What do I think about technology, childhood, learning, and creating in the 21st century?
  • What are the possibilities for children’s use of technology?
    • What are potential negative aspects?
  • What creative opportunities does technology present for thinking about pedagogy? For making children’s learning and thinking visible?
  • In what ways can technology present opportunities for children’s creative expression?
  • How might I begin to dialogue with families and colleagues about the complicated issues of technology and childhood?

Case Study: Technology

Children in a Grade 2 class have access to computers, to exercise their skills with technology. They can use drawing software to create pictures and stories. The educator can upload the children’s work to a secure social media page to share with other parents. Parents can provide written consent if they would like their child’s work to be displayed on the secure social media page, providing opportunities for discussion among parents and educators.
