Module 1: The Principles of Early Learning

Rights

Canada’s federal and provincial governments are working to uphold the inherent rights of Indigenous children and their families. They are working to protect and promote Indigenous culture, language, communities, leaders, and organizations.

B.C. has recently introduced legislation in line with the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

B.C.’s new law

  • Recognizes and respects the constitutional and human rights of Indigenous peoples
  • Makes sure Indigenous peoples are part of the decisions that affect them, their families, and their territories
  • Provides a reconciliation plan for B.C.
