Module 1: The Principles of Early Learning
Reconciliation
Respectfully living and learning together means that we promote reconciliation.
According to the revised framework, “reconciliation acknowledges that there is value for all learners when Indigenous content and worldviews are shared in real and meaningful ways” (BC Ministry of Education, 2019, p. 13). For example, educators are encouraged to
- Build relationships with Indigenous communities
- Support the education of Indigenous and non-Indigenous families and children to learn about residential schools, and Indigenous histories
- Learn from those who share, teach, and join early learning communities
- Honour community Elders and learn from them
- Promote and contribute to reconciliation, healing, and justice
