Module 4: Living Inquiries – Engagement with Others, Materials, and the World

Importance of Engagement with Others, Materials, and the World

Children can construct meaning when they engage with others, materials, and the world. This includes objects, space, place, rhythm, rituals, gestures, sound, children, and adults. They all interconnect and participate in the interactions and inquiries that emerge in early care and learning spaces.

As children engage with the world, they

  • Inquire
  • Create new ideas
  • Solve problems
  • Build theories of people, places, and materials

Play is an important part of these engagements.
