Treatment Notifications for Residential Applications

Before you apply pesticides to landscaped areas, you are required to notify, in writing, any occupants or tenants who live on the property.

As a Landlord

You must notify:

  • tenants who rent a suite on the property where you live;
  • tenants who rent a house or suite on property you own;
  • any other occupants that live on the property where you plan to apply pesticides.

As a Tenant

You must first get permission from the property owner for the application. Once you have permission for the application, you must notify:

  • the owner or manager of the land, and
  • any other occupants or tenants.

Notification Requirements

The form of the notice is flexible and can include things such as:

  • a “door knocker”
  • an information sheet
  • a pamphlet

The treatment notice must contain the following information:

  • A description of the treatment area
  • The name(s) of the target pest(s)
  • The registration (PCP Act) number(s) and active ingredient(s) in the pesticide(s)
  • The proposed date and start time of the pesticide use (and proposed alternate dates and times of pesticide use)
  • The name of the RAC holder and the RAC number
  • A phone number at which the RAC holder can be reached for more information about the proposed pesticide use
  • Precautions that should be taken to minimize exposure to a pesticide or its residues, including specifying the period following treatment during which people should not enter the treatment area
