Module 2: Rethinking Learning and Practice

The Process of Pedagogical Narration

What is the process of pedagogical narration? It includes

  • Collecting traces of practice
  • Reflecting on those traces
  • Engaging in dialogue

The diagram below shows you the process of pedagogical narration.

The process of pedagogical narration is ongoing and cyclical. Through critical reflection and a pedagogy of listening, educators are able to engage in collaboartive dialogue, make pedagogical choices, collect traces, make those traces visible and create links to the Early Learning Framework.

It is important to remember that there is no single way to engage in pedagogical narration. Working with this process is not predictable or linear. It is a process with starts and stops, with moments of clarity, and moments of uncertainty. As an educator, you may experiment and find what works for you in your practice.

Be patient. It takes time and practice to become used to noticing, recording, reflecting, and dialoguing about moments. You may start from where you are and take small steps.
