Black communities in Canada

In Canada, some Black Canadians can trace their heritage to early Black settlers who made their way to Canada to avoid anti-Black legislation and anti-Black racism in America. While Canada offered hope to these new Black settlers, many returned to the United States due to racist treatment and unequal opportunity in Canada.
