Apply the Selection Criteria

Personal Bias

Our identities and experiences may directly or indirectly influence how and why we choose resources—it’s part of being human to favour one point of view, belief, or preference over another. Personal bias can stem from your age, gender identity, sexual orientation, family background, culture, and religious or political beliefs.

Take a moment to reflect on your personal opinions and biases and how these may influence the resources you select for your classroom.

Activity

Reflect

What did you notice about the resources you listed? What formats, themes, or characters do you tend to choose more or less often? Identify opportunities to consider other varied resources.
