Module 2: What is Racism? What is Anti-Racism?

Reconciliation Calls to Action Through Education

Former Canadian Senator and Chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, Murray Sinclair, provides key insights on reconciliation through education.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its final report in 2015, creating 94 Calls to Action. These Calls include recommendations for the development of new practices, policies and programs in Canadian society that:

  • Acknowledge the racist, harmful history of residential schools and their impacts
  • Create supports for Indigenous communities specific to their needs
  • Advocate for the rights and agency of Indigenous communities
  • Prevent anti-Indigenous racism and cultural genocide from occurring

Calls to Action 62-65 are specific to educators. Take a moment to read them.

Review the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action and the status report for each call.

Reconciliation is a process; it is ongoing work.
