Module 3: Anti-Racism and Human Rights

Everyone’s Responsibility

Everyone working within the education system is responsible for ensuring that all students and staff can thrive. These responsibilities include:

  • Upholding the human rights of all students, staff, and members of the school/district community
  • Creating and maintaining welcoming environments for all students, staff, and members of the school/district community
  • Removing all barriers and inequities for all students, staff, and members of the school/district community

I am aware of my positionality as an adult in educational settings — what I do not say sends a very distinct message to the students in the building. My silence causes harm.

Reflection

This module has explained the link between anti-racism and human rights.

Consider the role and responsibilities you hold in B.C.’s education system.

  • What can you do to help protect the human rights of the students, staff, and members of the school/district community you work with?
  • What changes can be created within your classroom or work environment to ensure it is an inclusive and supportive space for everyone?
